Disparities Dialogue

“A Space to Discover, Discuss, and Dismantle Inequities”

The monthly SEQUINS Disparities Dialogue is a curated educational summary and high-level review of compelling articles, covering topics in equity neuroscience, recently published in prominent scientific journals. Disparities Dialogue aims to keep the SEQUINS membership and interested stakeholders informed about new insights, key discoveries, novel interventions, and implications for clinical practice or public health. These journal-derived, evidence-based discussions about contemporary neurological disparities research may also impart to the audience - appraisal skills, ideas for future studies, and avenues for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Format

  • Virtual discussion program in which a Chair and up to 4 expert commentators highlight and contextualize important recent papers on neurological disparities research. 

  • Presentation is professional and conversational, focusing on objectivity by encouraging different viewpoints.

  • Each expert offers analysis & insight into the article (content expert +/- generalist views).

Guests

  • Each program features experts who are well-versed in specific neurological or psychiatric topics being discussed during the episode or have a public health/epidemiology/health service research background. 

Discussion 

  • Expert commentators analyze the studies, provide context, offer different perspectives, and discuss significance, and possible next steps 

Timing

  • Program is recorded 1-2X a month

  • Articles discussed typically published online or in print during the preceding ~1 year

Duration

  • 30-50 minutes depending on the number of articles on roster

Platform

  • Session conducted and recorded over Zoom

Selections

  • Pre-specified (not exhaustive) list of criteria for article selections 

  • Pre-specified (not exhaustive) list of journals routinely surveilled 

  • 5-10 articles per program (5-10 minutes per article)

Dissemination

  • Recordings posted on the SEQUINS YouTube channel
